How To Recycle A Spoon Into A Pendant With Epoxy

How to make a resin spoon pendant

Did you know you can turn your next yard sale find into a resin pendant treasure? Here’s how to take a spoon and turn it into a pendant with resin.

Resin Supplies:

Step 1:  Bend the spoon.

how to bend a spoon

Bend your spoon handle around the screwdriver. Start the bend approximately 3/4 of an inch away from the top of the spoon.

Step 2:  Cut the spoon end.

metal cutting shears

Use a pair of heavy-duty metal shears to cut the end off your spoon.

💡 Pro tip: Cutting with metal shears can be challenging. You can also use a jeweler’s saw or hacksaw.

Step 3:  Finish the cut end.

File the end of the cut edge of the spoon handle to make sure there are no sharp edges.

Then, use a pair of pliers to turn the end of your spoon under.

Step 4:  Fill with resin and beads.

resin drying mat

Position your spoon on the drying mat, so it is level. Make sure it is even from front to back and side to side.

The crystal doming resin mixes one to one by volume. It’s the perfect epoxy resin for this spoon pendant because it mixes thick. It will build a high dome for the beads on the spoon. You’ll need about 1 teaspoon total for a spoon this size.

⭐️ BONUS: If you’ve never mixed resin before, read this article on how to mix resin in five easy steps.

pouring resin

Pour resin into your spoon. Fill it about 3/4 of the way full.

💡 Pro tip: Don’t overfill. Adding the beads and your hair charm will displace some of the resin.

Use your stir utensil to draw the resin to the edge of your spoon pendant.

adding glass beads to resin

Shake glass beads into your resin.  Add enough to cover the entire spoon.

resin charm

Gently place your charm into the center of your spoon.

Your glass beads will sink to the bottom of the resin. Add more glass beads or resin as necessary.

💡 Pro tip: You will need to do this two or three times. Add beads, wait a few minutes, and recheck your resin.

Step 5:  Hang on a necklace

Enjoy your new spoon pendant.

      1. Hi Abie, thanks for sharing your insight. I wish we could have ‘safer’ tutorials for young crafters, but I’m afraid resin really isn’t appropriate for young children.

  1. Wow smart I am not that old enough to do this so can you make more tutorials with stuff that is safe for all ages?
THANK YOU FOR THE SMART TUTORIAL!!!!!😊😊😊😊🤗🤗🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏
